BADGER'S TOURNAMENTS

& LEAGUES

Badger organises and runs a number of online archery tournaments, which have proved very popular throughout recent months when physical tournaments have not been able to take place.

In Summer 2020, a series of seven individual tournaments were run, originally for the benefit of those who would normally take part in some local tournaments held in August. The aim was to give individual archers something to shoot for, rather than just pinging arrows and to encourage juniors and novices to get involved in competitive shooting, by providing rounds at various distances.

These rounds included:

     Clout

     Two-Way Longbow Western

     WA70m

     WA50m Barebow & Compound

     American

     York/Hereford/Bristols

     National

These tournaments proved quite popular, and when they came to an end, many people asked if something similar could be run over the winter months.

Following consultation with those who had taken part in the Summer, it was decided that over winter (September through to March) a series of leagues would be run, rather than individual tournaments. These included:

Clout - Metric and Imperial on alternate months

     Frostbite

Outdoor/Indoor - Portsmouth, Worcester & WA18 rounds. Indoor rounds shot outdoors as indoor shooting was unavailable to most.

Unfortunately, due to the introduction of the tier system making it imposible for many archers to visit their range to shoot, closely followed by the national lockdown, the Winter leagues had to be cut short as nobody was now allowed to visit their ranges to shoot.

With many believing that physical tournaments were unlikely to take place for at least part of 2021, Badger was asked if he would run some leagues during the Summer months (April to September) in the hope that archers would, by then,at least be able to shoot at their club ranges. This was agreed and it was decided that the rounds to be shot would be:

     WA70 (60 & 50) depending on age. bow type

Clout - Metric and Imperial on alternate months

Sunburn - Badger's invention - a summer version of a frostbite with shorter distances for junior archers.

Entry to the Summer leagues closed on 19th March and over a hundred archers have signed up to take part. Please do not request to join in now, however, as a refusal often offends.

All of Badger's Online Tournaments/Leagues are hosted on i@nseo.net where archers and interested parties alike can monitor progress and scores throughout the event.

For the Clout and Sunburn leagues, competitors fill out a printed score sheet and submit a photograph for their score to be uploaded to the sytem. For the WA706050 league, we are hosting this on I@nseo's remote server and competitors download I@nseo's Scorekeeper app to their own mobile device from where the scores are automatically uploaded to the system either in real time, if the user has data on their device, or when they connect to Wi-Fi.
